Toivon että jokainen uusi koiranomistaja tutustuisi ennen koiran hankintaa Suomen Kennelliiton Koiranomistajan ja -haltijan Velvollisuuksiin ja Koiraetikettiin sekä siihen mitä koirasta sanotaan Suomen laissa. Eläinsuojelulakia ja Suomen Kennelliiton Koiran Omistaminen sivustoja kannattaa selata, samoin on hyvä tutustua myös Koiran Elekieleen ja Positiiviseen Vahvistamiseen Kouluttamisessa.

Ennen kun lähdet kyselemään pentua...

Tutustuthan australinpaimenkoiraan rotuna huolellisesti, sen luonteeseen, alkuperäiseen ja nykyiseen käyttötarkoitukseen sekä rodun yleisimpiin sairauksiin. Tiedonlähteinä toimii esim. Koiranet, Australianpaimenkoirat ry, sekä monet rodun omistajat ja kasvattajat.
Mieti sopiiko australianpaimenkoira rotuna juuri teille ja teidän elämäntilanteeseenne. Onko koko perhe mukana koiran hankinnassa ja haluaa osallistua koiran koulutukseen. Mieti miten järjestät koiran hoidon jos esimerkiksi sairastut vakavasti tai elämäntilanteesi on hetkellisesti epäsuotuisa koiranpitoon.
Pyrit tutustumaan mahdollisimman moneen australianpaimenkoiraan. Kokeissa ja näyttelyissä koiria näkee paljon mutta on tärkeää nähdä niitä myös kotona omassa ympäristössään. Kasvattajat ja omistajat usein esittelevät mielellään koiriaan ja kertovat niistä kysyttäessä enemmän. Mielestäni mahdollisimman moneen australianpaimenkoiraan kannattaa henkilökohtaisesti tutustua ja selvittää se, että mitä hyviä, mutta etenkin huonoja puolia rodussa on, sillä ulkonäön lisäksi rodun sisällä on hyvin paljon hajontaa luonteen osalta. Näiden erojen näkeminen auttaa selkeyttämään sitä millaisen koiran itse haluaisi, mikä taas auttaa oikean kasvattajan ja pentueen etsinnässä.
Punnitse onko rodun yleinen terveys sellainen että uskallat ostaa tämän rodun edustajan.

Omaa pentua etsiessä kannattaa ehdottomasti tutustua tulevaan emään jo ennen pentujen syntymää jos se vain on mahdollista sekä pyrkiä näkemään emä normaalioloissa omassa ympäristössä ja pentujen kanssa niiden synnyttyä. Keskustele kasvattajan kanssa rodusta, kasvattajan tavoitteista ja siitä miksi hän toteuttaa juuri tämän/tulevan pentueen, mitä pentueelta toivoo/odottaa ja mitä riskitekijöitä terveyden tai luonteen kohdalla pentueessa on. Pyri selvittämään myös itse pentueen vanhempien ja isovanhempien terveys, luonteet sekä aikaisempi jälkeläisnäyttö jos sitä on. Käy tutustumassa pentueen isään mikäli se on mahdollista. Kaikkein tärkeintä on kuitenkin aina kysyä, kyseenalaistaa kuulemaansa ja lukemaansa sekä kunnolla punnita sitä onko rotu itselle ja omaan elämäntilanteeseen sopiva. Mieti myös kohtaako sinulla ja kasvattajalla näkemykset ja onko kasvattajan vaatimukset uudelta kodilta mielestäsi kohtuulliset.

// Before you ask a puppy from us...

Get to know the Australian Shepherd as a breed, find out their temperament, what their original use was, what they are used for now and what are the main illnesses of the breed. Good sources of information are the Finnish Dog Database, Australianpaimenkoirat ry (only in Finnish) and many of the Australian Shepherd owners and breeders.
Try to see how Australian Shepherd as a breed meets your expectations and fits in your current lifestyle. Is your whole family on board with the breed and is also ready to commit into the future training. Think about the unexpected circumstances that you can meet in your life, such as serious illness or drastic changes where your life is no longer favorable for the dog, how will you handle the dogs care in these situations.
Try to get to know as many individuals in the breed as possible. Trials and dog shows are a good place to start but it is also very important to see the dogs at home in their own environment. Breeders and dog owners will usually gladly introduce their dogs to you and tell you more about them when asked. Meeting as many Australian Shepherds as possible in person is, in my opinion, very important as there is much divergence inside the breed when it comes to the temperament and appearance. It's important to know the good and the bad aspects of the breed. Seeing the differences will help you to figure out what kind of dog you want and this will help you to find the right breeder and the right puppy for you.
Consider the breeds current health and that are you really willing to buy an individual from this breeds despite the risks.

When looking for a puppy I strongly advice you to get to know the mother of the litter before the birth of the puppies if it is possible, try to see the mother at home and with the puppies when they are born, talk with the breeder about the breed, what are the breeders goals and why do they want this or their future litter to happen, what do they expect/hope from this litter and what health or temperament risks there are in the litter. Try to find out on your own the puppies parents and grandparents health status, temperament and what kind of puppies they have possibly had in the past. Go to see the father of the litter if it can be arranged. The most important thing is to always ask, have a healthy amount of doubt about the things you read and are told about, and really consider how an Australian Shepherd fits you and your lifestyle. Think how your and the breeders views meet and does the breeder have reasonable demands for the new owner.

Itse kasvattajana vaadin...

Yhteistyökykyistä, harrastavaa, aktiivista ja itsenäistä koitia joka on aidosti kiinnostunut koiran kouluttamisesta. Katson halun kisata plussana mutta en pidä sitä vallitsevana kriteerinä uutta kotia valitessa.
Että koiraa sekä rodun sopivuutta itselle on todella harkittu ja että koiran hoitoon sitoudutaan myös sen sairastuessa. Koiran kaikki perustarpeet tulee täyttyä läpi sen eliniän ihan perushoidosta koulutukseen ja eläinlääkärihoitoon.
Että tulet katsomaan pentuja ja emää ainakin kerran luokseni ennen luovutusta.
Että koiran koulutus toteutetaan koiralle palkitsevasti ja koiraa kunnioittaen, mahdollisimman paljon positiivisia vahvisteita ja leikkiä käyttäen.
Lonkkien, kyynärien ja selän kuvauttamista 2 - 3-vuoden iässä (mielellään viimeistään ennen 8-vuoden ikää) sekä silmien peilausta ainakin kerran koiran elämän aikana. Olkien kuvaaminen on plussaa.
MH- kokeen suorittamista jossain vaiheessa mikäli koiran luonne sen sallii.

Näiden vaatimuksien lisäksi toivon kovasti että uusi koti olisi halukas pitämään minuun yhteyttä haluamallaan tavalla läpi koko koiran elämän, mutta etenkin koiran ensimmäisten elinvuosien ajan, jotta tiedän minkälaiseen suuntaan jalostukseni on menossa. En muuten puutu kasvattieni elämään sen kummemmin, vaan jokainen harrastaa koiransa kanssa mitä haluaa ja ruokkii niitä juuri sillä ruualla minkä kokee toimivaksi. Ongelmatilanteiden tullessa esiin (esim. koiran käytösongelmat tai oman elämäntilanteen muuttuminen) toivon että omistajilla on halua hakea tarvittaessa apua niihin sekä näkevän hieman vaivaa niiden ratkaisemiseen. Muuten arvostan hyvin paljon itsenäistä otetta koiran omistamiseen ja kouluttamiseen, halua hakea tietoa, oppia virheistään sekä kehittyä koiranomistajana.

// As a breeder I demand...

That the new home is co-operative, takes interest in any dog hobbies, has a certain kind of activity level and self-reliance and that they are genuinely interested to train their dog. I see the wish to do trials as a plus but this is not a prevalent criteria when choosing homes.
That you have really considered the breeds suitability for you and that you are committed to take care of the dog even if it gets sick. All the dogs basic necessities should be met trough it's lifetime from basic care to training all the way to the proper veterinary care.
That you will come to see the puppies and the mother of the litter at least once before buying the puppy.
That the dog training will be done in a way that it is rewarding and respectful for the dog, that you will use as much positive reinforcement and play as you can in training.
That the dogs hips, elbows and back will be x-rayed when the dog is 2 - 3 years old, or at least before the dog turns 8 years old. Also the eyes should be examined at least once in its lifetime. X-raying the shoulders is a plus.
Attend the MH- test at some point of the dogs life.

Beside these demands I really do hope that the new home is willing to keep in touch with me in any way they feel comfortable trough the dogs whole life, but especially in the dogs first years so I know what direction my breeding is going. I do not intervene with the new home otherwise, you can have any hobbies you like and feed your dog any food that you deem suitable. I also hope that in any problem situations (e.g. dogs behavior issues or unexpected change in your life) the owner is willing to get help and go trough the trouble to resolve them. Otherwise I really do appreciate certain kind of independent grip in owning and training a dog, willingness to educate yourself, learn from your mistakes and develop as a dog owner.

Pennut lähtevät meiltä...

Aikaisintaan 7-viikon ikäisinä.
Suomen Kennelliittoon rekisteröityinä, pentutarkastettuina, silmäpeilattuina, sirutettuina ja suositusten mukaisesti madotettuna.
Bio Sensor -ohjelman läpikäyneenä sekä tottuneina mahdollisimman moniin ääniin/äänitteisiin, alustoihin, ulkoilmaan sekä autoiluun. Äänitteet soitetaan tietokoneelta ja niihin kuuluu mm. raketit, myrsky, ovikello, koiran haukunta, autot ja ihmishälinä.
Kotioloissa kasvaneina jossa ne tottuvat talouden muihin koiriin sekä kaikkiin normaaleihin elämisen ääniin.
Pienen pentupaketin kanssa johon pyrin koiran omien papereiden ja hoito-ohjeiden lisäksi sisällyttämään ainakin naksuttimen, yhden lelun synnynkodista, ruokaa jota pentu on syönyt ennen luovutusta sekä tietopaketin koiranomistajan velvollisuuksista, oikeuksista ja vastuusta. Tietopaketit ja hoito-ohjeet lähetän .PDF -tiedostoina.
Kasvattajan kaiken tuen ja tiedon kera jota vain pystyn tarjoamaan läpi koiran eliniän.

Jokaisesta pennusta tehdään kauppakirja Kennelliiton myyntisopimuspohjaa käyttäen ja jokaisen ostajan henkilöllisyys tarkistetaan ennen pennun myyntiä. Pentua ostavan henkilön tulee olla täysi-ikäinen. Kasvattajana viimekädessä päätän mikä pennuista menee kenellekkin mutta toiveita saa aina esittää. Pentuja ei kuitenkaan varata värin tai kyselyjärjestyksen perusteella.

Kasvattajana pyrin panostamaan meiltä lähteviin pentuihin jo emän tiineysaikana, mutta etenkin pentujen synnyttyä sosialistamalla ja ruokkimalla niitä parhaani mukaan jotta niillä on mahdollisimman hyvät edellytykset lähteä uusiin koteihinsa. Tästä huolimatta pitää muistaa että meiltä lähtevä pentu ei koskaan ole täydellinen, eikä siitä välttämättä koskaan tule juuri sitä mitä minä tai uusi omistaja on toivonut tai halunnut. Kasvattamani pentu, tai jopa koko pentue, voi olla hyvinkin sairas tai luonteeltaan erittäin hankala ja uuteen kotiinsa myöhemmin täysin sopimaton. Omalta osaltani pyrin kuitenkin siihen ettei näin kävisi ja että jokainen koti saisi sellaisen koiran jota on ilo rakastaa koko sen eliniän ajan kaikista virheistä huolimatta.

// When the puppies leave they...

Will be at least 7weeks old.
Have been registered to the Finnish Kennel Club, checked by the vet for basic health and eyes, microchipped and dewormed appropriately.
Have gone trough the Bio Sensor -program and have been introduced to many sounds/recordings, different underlays, outside and car rides. The recordings will be played from the computer and they include fireworks, storms, doorbells, dog barking, car noises and loud crowds.
Have grown up inside the house where they have been introduced to the other dogs and all the common noises in the household.
Will get a small starter packet that, besides the dogs own papers and care instruction, I will try to include at least one clicker, one toy that has familiar scents, the food that the puppy has been eating and a small info packet about the dog owners obligations, rights and responsibilities. The care instructions and info packet will be sent as a .PDF -file.
Have all the support and knowledge that I as a breeder can offer to them trough their whole life.

All puppies will be sold using the Finnish Kennel Clubs sale contract and I will check the buyers identification before selling the puppy. The buyer has to be at least 18 years old. As the breeder I have the final say when deciding which puppy goes to what house but you are welcomed to tell me your wishes. Puppies cannot be reserved based on color or in the asking order.

As a breeder I try to invest as much as I can into the puppies from the early stages of the mothers pregnancy to the time they will leave to their new homes. I try to socialize and feed them with the best of my ability so they could have the best start in their life that I can offer. Despite all the work and time I put into the puppies it has to be taken into consideration that a puppy from us is never perfect, and it might never be exactly what I or the new owner has wished or hoped for. The puppy, or the whole litter, that I have bred can be very sick or have a really poor temperament that can make it hard to handle and lead later to the conclusion that the puppy does no longer fit into the home it went. I try to do everything I can to prevent this happening and make it so that every home could get a dog that is joy to love trough their whole life despite all its faults.

Sijoituskoirat, osaomistuskoirat ja pennut jotka myydään jalostusoikeudella.

Etsin ajoittain uusia yhteistyökykyisiä koteja sijoituskoirilleni sekä pennuille joihin haluan pidättää jalostus- tai osaomistusoikeuden. Nämä pennut voivat olla niin omista pentueistani kuin ulkomaantuontejakin. Vaatimukseni sijoitus-, jalostusoikeus tai osaomistuskoiran kohdalla eivät eroa kovinkaan paljoa normaalin pennun myynnistä muutamaa poikkeusta lukuunottamatta:

Sijoitus-, ja jalostusoikeuskoirien kohdalla minä kasvattajana maksan koiran viralliset lonkka-, kyynär-, ja selkäkuvaukset, silmien peilauksen sekä MH- luonnekuvauksen. Kasvattajana vastaan myös kaikista kuluista ja vastuista joita astutuksesta, pentujen hoidosta ja uusien kotien etsinnästä tulee.
Sijoitus-, jalostusoikeus-, tai osaomistuskoirien haltija on velvollinen ilmoittamaan minulle koiran juoksuista silloin kun kyseessä on narttukoira.
Sijoitus-, jalostusoikeus-, tai osaomistuskoti sitoutuu kertomaan koiran luonteesta ja terveydestä rehellisesti niin hyvässä kun pahassakin.
Sijoitus-, jalostusoikeus-, tai osaomistuskodin täytyy olla yhteistyökykyinen ja halukas pitämään myös kasvattajan suuntaan itsenäisesti yhteyttä.

Sijoitus-, jalostusoikeus-, tai osaomistuskoira on normaalia pentua halvempi mutta hinta määräytyy aina sopimuksen mukaan. Jokaisesta pennusta tehdään Suomen Kennelliiton kauppasopimus oikeanlaista pohjaa käyttäen. Jokaisessa sopimuksessa käydään kaikki ehdot selkeästi läpi. Sopimukset solmitaan vain silloin kun se palvelee kumpaakin osapuolta ja ehdot ovat kohtuullisia sekä uudelle kodille kuin kasvattjallekkin.

Mikäli olet ensisijaisesti kiinnostunut sijoituskoirasta niin ilmoitathan siitä pentua kysellessäsi! Sijoituskoiria voi kysellä ajoittain myös muutoinkin vaikkei minulla sillä hetkellä olisikaan kotia etsiviä pentuja.

// Co-ownership and puppies sold with breeding rights.

Sometimes I have puppies that will be sold with breeding rights or with co-ownership contract. These puppies can be either from my own litters or bought from a different breeder. Puppies that are placed to new homes with breeding rights or with co-ownership do not differ that much from a normally sold puppies aside from few differences:

As the breeder I will pay for the dogs hip, elbow and back x-rays as well as the eye examination and MH- test. I will also take full responsibility for all the costs and work that will go into the breeding, taking care of the puppies and finding them proper homes.

The person who has a puppy with breeding rights or with co-ownership from me is obligated to tell me when the dog is in heat if the dog is female.

The person who has a puppy with breeding rights or with co-ownership from me is obligated tell me about the dogs temperament and health truthfully. This includes all the good and bad things.

The person who has a puppy with breeding rights or with co-ownership from me has to be co-operative and willing to keep in contact with me.

Puppy that is sold with breeding right or with a co-owner contract is cheaper than a normal puppy but the terms of the contract define the final price. All puppies will be sold using the correct contract from the Finnish Kennel Club. With every contract all the terms will be read trough clearly with the new home. I will only make and sign a contract that serves both parties and the terms are reasonable for the new home as well as to the breeder.

If you are interested to provide a home to a puppy with this kind of contract I hope that you include this in your e-mail when asking for a puppy. You are also welcomed to ask me about puppies sold with rights even when I do not have any puppies looking for homes at the moment.

I publish all public information about the puppies health and achievements in hobbies in this blog (and later on my homepage) after the puppies have left for their new homes. I will also publish (with the owners permission) the dogs temperament description as told by the owner and all other non-public information that I think should be known when breeding. I will always ask if I can publish pictures unless the pictures are taken by me. I will not publish the owners name, information or social media accounts unless the owner so wishes.
